Somergloom V

August 7-9, 2025

Are you heavy enough for this heavy music fest?

Will the twin gargoyle statues make an appearance in 2025?

Where’s Kira McSpice?! (The performer has appeared at all four of the previous Somerglooms, but will be taking a breather in 2025. New album on the way. We’ve got an interview here).

Three days of manic melancholy descend on Somerville and Medford. Somergloom, the heavy music festival, marks its fifth year with a mix of new and familiar faces. Is the anniversary a cause for celebration, or another opportunity to brood beneath a black, moonless sky? Choose your own adventure!

A fourstack of three local noisemakers, plus GUHTS from NYC, open the festival at Deep Cuts in Medford on Thursday.

The action then pivots to Crystal Ballroom, with Somergloom veterans Body Void (‘21) headlining Friday and “expressionistic metal ensemble” SUMAC headlining the final night of the festival on Saturday.

Somergloom is touting its international character this year, welcoming MOTHS, a prog metal group out of Puerto Rico, as well as the NYC-based, all-Nepalese language “immigrindcore” of Chepang. All that and more with sixteen bands over three days of beautiful chaos.
