Quitter

The insecurity that comes with never being sure you’re on the right path.

Weakened Friends don’t quit in Quitter.

Portland, Maine’s Weakened Friends makes no secrets about some of the subject matter dealt with on their most recent LP Quitter. It’s in the name. Relationships, the stress of carving out your identity in an uncertain world, the insecurity that comes with never being sure you’re on the right path. All the normal themes associated with making the troubling transition from childhood to adult life. Some might call it a “coming of age” album but that would be giving adults too much credit for having figured it all out and dispelled all youthful uncertainty. Thinking you’ve finally figured it all out doesn’t make you an adult – it makes you a smug asshole.

Chief songwriter Sonia Sturino leans into the uncertainty with fragile and fractured lyrics girded by power pop formations that blur the line between inner strength and pure posturing. Weakened Friends might not have all the answers, but they’re damn sure they don’t have all the answers. Our highlighted track, the eponymous “Quitter,” trumpets the youthful sense of alienation and turns it into a singalong postpunk anthem. Sing along and make a new friend in Weakened Friends.
