Naked (a showing of scars)

We’re bringing the accordion back, baby! The lap-gasser used to be a fairly popular instrument during the formative years of the Baby Boomer generation. And then it all went away – Jimi Hendrix lit up that electric guitar and nobody could imagine going back.

Walt McClements doesn’t try to take us back, instead he looks for a path forward. Popular music has moved beyond guitar-centric composition. There’s a thing called New Age Music. Everyone digs Arvo Pärt, György Ligeti, Glenn Branca, Terry Riley, and Steve Reich, right? The time and place is perfect for McClements to plant his flag for the rebirth of accordion.

His ear-opening LP A Hole In The Fence will make you think about the wheezer-box in new ways. Our highlighted track “Naked (a showing of scars)” sounds like a mashup of Philip Glass and the soundtrack to the closing credits of an early Harmony Korine film. We’ll say no more- have a listen!
