Lia Kohl: “Moon Beam”
Written By Michael Gutierrez
Lia Kohl’s cello sounds like a hacksaw working its way through a hardened lump of calcified pixy dust. In a good way. The artist draws oblique patterns into an aether of ambient sound, some found and some synthesized. Shades of Arvo Pärt with respect to the strings and sensibility, but the electronic accompaniment raises our highlighted track “Moon Beam” into a whole different dimension.
