Amery: “Rocker Blues”

“Blues” as in sad vibes, not so much as in the genre. Our highlighted track “Rocker Blues” from Amery serves up a throwback pop/rock number about something vaguely resembling a broken heart. A medium tempo bopper with a descending bass line on the verse, which picks up heat on the chorus and rescues a kind of bizarre energy, strength, and enjoyment out of the depths of despair. By the grand finale the whole piece has transformed into unapologetic 80s pop triumphalism: strong, always winning, innocently deranged. God bless. Via Night School.
