Daphne Blue Underworld: “Holograms”

An ambient dreamer. Daphne Blue Underworld’s latest LP pulls in a few directions. Pop, electro, twee rock. Our highlighted track “Holograms” is ambient instrumental, deploying guitars and synth to create open fields of sunlight, and wildflowers, and yearning. The flow of the music comes a hair’s breadth removed from 80s teen movie balladry, but there are no vocals, and all the emotional cues have been amped up by a power of ten. It’s like Julee Cruise playing your highschool prom. The prom theme? Under the Deep Blue Sea, naturally. Off Memory Palace.
