Wednesday: “Elderberry Wine”

Is this the first release since Rat Saw God? Wednesday really blew up with that album, a marriage of grunge and country with punk Adrianne Lenker vocals. Now we’re treading along the dangerous path toward the sophomore album. The follow up. The one that comes with more pressure to go big, stay big, not slump. Or maybe it’s just whatever. The single “Elderberry Wine” has enough pedal steel to order a whiskey at a honky tonk. The grunge attack has been decidedly dialed back for a more comfort food, Americana sound. But the vocals of Karly Hartzman still have that bite. Via Dead Oceans.
