Wilder Maker: “Strange Meeting with Owls”

Back into the dream…
Not so long ago, Gabriel Birnbaum, chief cog spinner for Wilder Maker, released a laidback, hazy, Tascam-drenched flashback of an album with Nightwater, which felt like a one-off lark cranked out during the pandemic and other types of nationally- and internationally-manifesting disasters.
Yet here he is dropping us back into the REM state once more, returning to a woozy, med-fi beatmaking style with his latest album The Streets Like Beds Still Warm.
Our highlighted track is the first single “Strange Meeting with Owls.” The owls are not what they seem, I hear. The project draws in longtime musical collaborators like Adam Brisbin, Nick Jost, Sean Mullins, Katie Von Schleicher and more.
The spirit animal of late sounds like Carlos Niño’s new age jazz-ambient zeitgeist. In fact, is Birnbaum angling for a future record release via International Anthem? The new album is part of a projected trilogy, so it’s all gotta land somewhere.
I’m going to need some additional time to fully process. Maybe not ten years, but some time. Via Western Vinyl.
