Nicole Mitchell and Ballaké Sissoko: “Doname”
Written By Michael Gutierrez

A soulful call and response between the flute and the kora. Nicole Mitchell handles the former, Ballaké Sissoko the latter. A kora, by the way, is a stringed instrument, popular in West Africa, normally plucked to produce its sound. The two bandleaders take their time on our highlighted track “Doname,” building a slow-to-medium tempo ambience that’s cut through with pathos. Off the full-length Bamako Chicago Sound System.
