Already Dead and The Stressballs celebrate news releases.

Angry Red Planet likely refers to Mars.

Shout out to the ShowRiders Rock n Roll & Country Soul Car Show in Harvard Square earlier in the day. A guy they called “Elvis” won the competition with the cherry red classic convertible below.

Angry Red Planet

Angry Red Planet

No downstairs bartender at the punk show in Cantab Underground on Sunday. Just as well. Because when you skipped upstairs to grab a beer, the RnB band riffing away on the Lounge stage made for a nice palate cleanser. Angry Red Planet kicked out the jams as a three-piece, closing with some sort of “Mexican mystery theme” using a specialty percussion item that resembled a vibrating tong that the drummer repeatedly smashed with a mallet.

The Stressballs

The Stressballs

Not to be outdone, the Stressballs trotted out their own new release, playing tracks off the latest LP The Last American Weekend. They had the vinyl (and maybe the CD?) at the merch table. You can buy it online too at Bandcamp – I noticed though that they’re not selling a digital version. Does a digital download come with the physical purchase? Not sure. But the approach signals a level of commitment to physical media that’s become rare.

the frenzy of tongs

the frenzy of tongs

A crazy outfit, the frenzy of tongs, that rocked a New York Dolls kind of energy. Bandanas, snakeskin, leather, studs, and tattoos aplenty. The five-piece switched between your standard four-chord punk and more complex protopunk arrangements. One of the guitarists wore assless chaps (yes, I know, all chaps are “assless” but I’m pointing out that there was nothing underneath) with a raccoon tail hanging off his backside. The vocalist worked the pit, bouncing around the room like an unleashed pinball. The kind of band where you walk out the door and can’t remember too much about the music, but you’re certain you’d go see them again.

Already Dead

Already Dead

Already Dead released a five-song EP called I Think It’s Time To Leave… Pure punk rock – the band is taking a breather on the rap/punk collabs they had been dipping into lately. Hump Day News wrote up one of the tracks off the EP, a trim punk burner called “Time.”
