Eve Egoyan and Mauricio Pauly: “Spore”

An experimental night on the town with acoustic and augmented piano meets gobs of electronic wires leading to strange places. What’s “augmented” piano anyway? You heard of “prepared piano.” That’s when composers lift the lid of the instrument, take a shit on the hammers, and bang their head against the keys. “Augmenting” a piano must be something different. Maybe running the mic’d sound through FX processors of various shades and stripes. That’s the sort of thing you hear on Julius Rodriguez’s “Blues At The Barn.” Are Eve Egoyan & Mauricio Pauly blue at the barn? Only our highlighted track “Spore” can say for sure.
