Finom: “Dirt”

One of those bands with members who have a lot of irons in the fire. Our highlighted track “Dirt” was recorded by Finom, a Chicago-based group that includes Macie Stewart, Sima Cunningham, V. V. Lightbody, and Spencer Tweedy.

We just reviewed Macie Stewart’s When The Distance Is Blue, an album that provides abstraction and ambience where Finom delivers a more straightforward pop/rockin’ experience. The song was recorded live at Metro, so there’s a subtle lack of polish, which is usually good for juicing a track with a little extra “smack you in the face” rawness.

I don’t know. Not feeling it. There are interesting musical ideas in this track, especially with the vocal polyphonies, but the execution feels flat. But don’t listen to me, the Metro crowd liked it just fine. Via Joyful Noise Recordings.
