Walt McClements: “Cloud Prints”

I feel like a li’l bitch. Sorta.
Because Walt McClements’ latest LP is using the promotional tactic that a lot of outfits are using lately, opening up one single for streaming prior to release. I mean, maybe they’ll open up more later, but for now it’s just the one. So if I want to review a track off the new album, I only have one choice and it’s “Cloud Prints.”
I could just wait. But I really enjoyed McClements’ previous accordion-driven experimental soundscapes, and his collaboration with harpist Mary Lattimore, so why wait?
First thing you notice on the one streaming track: not much fucking accordion. It’s mostly a saxophone by Aurora Nealand that dominates the space. Interesting, is this how the rest of the album plays out, with the accordion taking a backseat?
Funny you should ask, because I can’t fucking answer. Off On a Painted Ocean. Via Western Vinyl.
