Yama Uba: “The Emperor's New Clothes”

Pour one out for Sinéad O'Connor. A real one. Oakland’s Yama Uba take a swing at the Irish singer’s hit “The Emperor’s New Clothes.” The cover was released the same month that the new/old President moved back into the White House. But the Orange One is so ludicrous, he’s beyond satire. So maybe this track is less about political critique, more about the emotional truths of the message. A personal message about how the world perceives you, what they get wrong, and how it’s their motherfucking problem so just deal. With meaty synth rhythms and the spirit of James Chance howling somewhere in the beyond.
