Joseph Petric: “Spirit Cloud”
Next. Level. Accordion. Player. That’s what you can call Joseph Petric in four sentence fragments.
Hump Day News recently shined a spotlight on Walt McClements whose album A Hole In The Fence pushed the instrument toward ambient minimalism and drone. Petric is an equally fascinating interpreter of the instrument, planting his flag in territory more akin to late modernism.
The symphony of sound in our highlighted track “Spirit Cloud” is produced in large part by the single accordion in the hands of our musical protagonist. He supplements the mix with a little backing synth deeper into the cut for some weird ambience, but the dedication to the pure and unadulterated possibility of the accordion is impressive.
