Avalon Emerson: “Don’t Be Seen With Me”

Dropping tracks left and right. That’s the way it is with DJs. Prolific. But our highlighted track “Don’t Be Seen With Me” isn’t so far removed from one of Avalon Emerson’s most surprising releases, the full-length excursion into vocals-forward electropop that was & the Charm. The album as a whole fell a little flat for me. The artist pulled a 180 away from the tried-and-true techno vibes to deliver something approaching a conventional pop number. Sometimes bold experiments don’t pay artistic dividends immediately. This track bears some marks of lessons learned, incorporating vocals in a much more techno-friendly vein to build an uptempo bounce that’s easy to like. Via Dead Oceans.
