Unofficial anti-smoking ad. On our highlighted track “Nerve,” rockers Condition Baker really lays into the narrative’s antagonist, who, among other undesirable traits, is a chronic smoker. Smoking has been part of humanity’s cultural tradition for thousands of years. Sometimes it’s more popular and widespread, other times it’s reviled and rare. A decade or so ago it really felt like smoking (cigarettes at least) was disappearing from the American scene. Now thanks to vaping, it’s enjoying a resurgence stateside, while France, the land of cafe-loitering, Existentialism-spouting tobacco fiends has outlawed smoking in all public places. What’s going on? The world is upside down.
