Pile: “Born At Night”

Supernatural rituals of post rock, post hardcore punishments. That’s the vibe of the music video for our highlighted track “Born At Night,” the lead single off Pile’s latest LP Sunshine and Balance Beams.
The director Joshua Echevarria clearly wants to make a feature-length neogothic horror thriller. He’ll have to content himself for the time being with a music video for Pile. Looks cool though. A striking black & white aesthetic, which might be the visual aesthetic of the album as such. A turn from the colorful Gideon Bok album covers we’ve been seeing recently.
While you’ll recognize a lot of the heavy artrock musical tropes in play from previous work, the album as a whole is described by the band as a “Sisyphean fable concerned with labor and living.” A kind of concept album with a strong unified narrative then? The lead single certainly sounds like it’s got a longer story than usual to tell. Via Sooper Records.
