Caleb Caudle: “I Don’t Fit In” (feat. Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush)
Our highlighted track “I Don’t Fit In” (feat. Jerry Douglas, Sam Bush) comes on like a backwoods country jammer but sports a hook that flashes a more pop/rock attitude. The textures are all there for the folky, country feel: lap steel guitar, shuffling percussion, fiddle, and the vocal twang. The lyrics flirt with the usual outsider themes popularized by Johnny Cash, though Caudle’s interpretation sounds more like social anxiety disorder than the wanton amorality of the protagonist in “Folsom Prison Blues.”
